Up from the ashes and a very busy week

10 10 2009

I feel as though I have somewhat neglected the blog this week but to be frank I have been far too busy to update it.

The past week I have been spending a lot of my time in Uni, a shocker I know but it is true. No, I have not had lectures, I have been stuck in front of a computer screen writing the news. Smoke Radio launced for Freshers Week on Monday and being the head of news along with Lynne we have been Burli-ing.

For those of you who do not know what Burli is, it is a journalistic type software. Not very exciting for everyone I am sure.

We have not only been writing the news but reading it live on air as well. Something that was a struggle to start with. To be honest after six months out of a radio studio I did not have a clue what I was doing.

But never fear, we are not broadcasting now for a few weeks so hopefully I will be able to blog a bit more.

Smoke Radio needs YOU!

1 10 2009

As part of our Freshers week broadcast, the news team at Smoke Radio are doing two news packages on identity fraud and energy saving. You do not have to be a student, just someone with a story.

  • Have you been a victim of identity fraud?
  • Are you more energy conscious than you were before?
  • Do you realise how important it is to save energy?

We want your stories to put on our website and who knows we might even broadcast the best. You can remain anonymous so why not get in touch.

Telephone interviews and Smoke.

30 09 2009

Today has been one of those days where I have tried to cram as much in as possible. And surprisingly it worked!

I knew that today there would be at least two things I had to do but had no idea that these two things would soon take up a large part of the day. The first thing on my agenda was a telephone interview with a Dr Linda Popadopolous. You might have seen her on the television before on some of the Channel 4 documentaries. To be completely honest I had not received the press release until this morning when I got up and had not really planned the interview very much but thankfully my Smoke Radio colleague and friend, Lynne had some questions prepared and she conducted the interview. I am doing one tomorrow morning with someone about students being victims of identity fraud through stolen mail.

After the interview it was time for the Smoke meeting. We discussed a great deal of things including Freshers Week and what we had planned. For those of you who are interested, make sure you tune into Smoke Radio, the award winning student station from the University of Westminster, next week.

The meeting lasted around two hours and after that I decided to go into London, I needed to buy a shower curtain from Primark, very interesting I know but it is a necessity, very much like my optics stand.

So today has been a full eventful day. I even saw Sam and Amanda (the twins from Big Brother) in Topshop, Oxford Circus. I don’t know why I told you that but I did! After a busy day I am preparing myself for the telephone interview tomorrow. What questions should I ask? At the moment I have not got a clue….

We just couldn’t resist…

14 03 2009

Getting off the bus about to endure an all-nighter in support of both Comic Relief and Smoke Radio‘s 26 hour broadcast might have messed with our brains a little bit. Here is a short film, made by yours truly of Tom being pushed in a wheelchair we found outside Northwick Park Hospital.

The girls are having some problems steering it, particularly across the road as the car waits patiently. Thank God you don’t need a driving license for a wheelchair!

Smoke Radio’s 26 hour broadcast

14 03 2009

Yes I am still awake, it is almost 5:00 am and I am still sat up in radio waiting for my show which doesn’t start until 8. Lynne has gone to sleep and Carly and Tom have gone to get a drink, I think to keep them awake.

Make sure you tune in at 8 if you are a morning person and wake up with Lee and Lynne
