CLEOPATRA, PORTRAIT OF A KILLER

BBC ONE 9:00 PM

If history programmes are your thing then this is definitely worth a look. We all know that these documentaries belong at the BBC and there is no other company that does them better. Tonight, Neil Oliver who some may have seen on The One Show travels to Egypt and Turkey to uncover the reign of Cleopatra VII. Throughout his journey, Oliver unravels the monarch’s lust for power and answers the question as to whether she killed her own daughter.

FILM – PRETTY WOMAN

ITV2 9:00 PM

I think that ITV2 must be receiving commission for showing this film because it is always on. Nevertheless it is a very good film and no matter how many times it is shown, people will tune in and watch it. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere star in this comedy that was released way back in 1990. In the film, (as if you didn’t already know) Gere plays a businessman that hires a prostitute in the form of Julia Roberts. But as the film progresses, the pair fall in love. Will they it go or confront their feelings? We all know what happens and will probably be tuning in anyway…

GAVIN AND STACEY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

BBC THREE 9:00 PM

BBC Three have been repeating the first and second series and now it is time, if you missed it to catch up on the Christmas special which has me in fits of laughter. Probably one of the TV highlights over the Christmas period, Gavin and Stacey have some big news for both families but how will Pam and Smithy take it? Also can Smithy persuade Ness to break off her engagement to Dave Coaches? When I was watching it, I could relate to what was going on and Ruth Jones and James Corden did an amazing job when writing it. With a lot of laughs throughout, make sure you tune in and watch the most famous marriage on television.

MISTRESSES

BBC ONE 9:00 PM

The penultimate episode of the series is upon us already and tonight we see a guest star in the form of Tracey-Ann Oberman. She will be best remembered as Chrissie Watts in EastEnders. She plays the editor of an erotic magazine tonight and hires Jessica (Shelley Conn) to organise a ‘twisted tea party’. Sounds interesting! She also befriends Jessica and offers her advice on how to handle her husband and stop him from straying. But could the editor be helping herself to Mark at the same time?

Also there is a double break-up as Trudi (Sharon Small) and Siobhan (Orla Brady) come to terms with single life. It is a very different story for Katie (Sarah Parish) though who has two men on the go, shame she didn’t have another she could’ve pointed the ones she didn’t want in Trudi and Siobhan’s direction. But the question is which one will Katie choose? Dan, her new love interest or Jack, the blast from the past, oh yeah and her boss! Looks like another brilliant episode in preparation for next weeks big finale.

HOLLOWAY

ITV1 9:00 PM

A new three part ITV documentary goes behind bars at HMP Holloway in north London. The programme gives an insight into some of the lives of the inmates. Not all 500 of course, just a few but I am sure a few will be enough. Tonight we meet 41 year-old Lorraine who has never been in trouble before. She is awaiting sentencing after running someone over following an argument. Also we meet 18 year-old Chloe who is just about to finish her fourth stretch in prison this year.Yes that it right, she has been in prison four times in a year! But she has no home to go to when she is released. What is she going to do? ITV dig deep and uncover the harsh reality that is prison life in one Britain’s toughest prisons.

DANGEROUS LOVE : A COMIC RELIEF SPECIAL

BBC ONE 10:35 PM

It’s a situation that no woman wants to be involved in, domestic violence. It is happening all the time though and unfortunately the number of cases is on the increase. This documentary fronted by model Danielle Lloyd illustrates what the money raised from Comic Relief is doing to help teenagers suffering domestic abuse. During the programme that was previously shown on BBC Three, Lloyd who has sustained domestic violence in the past, travels to an organisation that is funded by Comic Relief. The leader, a woman who has also suffered from domestic violence, uses her experiences to help teenagers going through the same thing. This looks like a real eye-opener and shows the good that Comic Relief is doing to help alleviate this growing problem.

HORNE AND CORDEN

BBC THREE 10:30 PM

Last weeks opener was masterful and broke a BBC Three record as being the top rated comedy for the channel. Tonight be prepared for more of the same as Horne and Corden do what they do best. Their on-screen and I am sure their off-screen relationship is amazing, they seem to bounce off eachother so do not forget to tune in and see two of the funniest guys on TV in their very own sketch show.

Will Young is to make a cameo appearance in BBC Three’s sketch show Horne and Corden. The show which began last week broke a record for being the highest rated comedy on the channel since it launched. The first episode pulled in an impressive 817,000 viewers. Young will make his guest appearance in the Spiderman and Superman sketch. Horne said that he didn’t have to do much but what he did do made the scene work really well.

It is not only Will Young that will be appearing, Matt Horne also told This Morning’s Phillip Scholfield and Fern Britton that pop princess Kylie Minogue is set to record a sketch with them. Horne worked with Kylie on her ITV1 show, The Kylie Show. He said that they had stayed friends ever since and she has been continually supportive.

Horne and Corden continues tomorrow at 10:30 on BBC Three. If you missed the last episode, catch it on BBC iPlayer.

HORNE AND CORDEN

BBC THREE 10:30 PM

The Gavin and Stacey stars’ sketch show starts tonight. We all know that these two are funny, cheeky and very good friends so could they be the next Ant and Dec of the comedy world? I think that they are already there. James Corden is such a talented writer and actor and his portrayal of Smithy in Gavin and Stacey is outstanding. I just hope that this shoe does not ruin that image. I am sure it won’t and I can see this being a hit.

MISTRESSES

BBC ONE 9:00 PM

What a cliffhanger to end on last week. So many stories left open and I hope we are going to get some answers this week. So, where are we up to. Katie (Sarah Parish) is currently juggling two men. Could she stray this week? Trudi (Sharon Small) who discovered her partner’s wife last week could be about to learn more about his deceit. Meanwhile can Jessica (Shelley Conn) struggle through and save her marriage or has she had enough? And if that isn’t enough, Siobhan (Orla Brady) who is in deep water following her recent hotel room actions, could be about to ruin her life forever. Just as she is getting things back on track at home. This episode will have so much going on in it and I am sure that some of the questions posed last week, will (if not answered) make one step closer to being resolved.

SUPERSIZE VS SUPERSKINNY

The eight episode of the ten part run tonight focuses on a 20-stone mum and a six stone model. They both swap diets and with the models career in jeopardy because of her weight, could both participants change their diets and possibly transform their lives?

THE UNDERCOVER PRINCES

BBC ONE 10:35 PM

This show was previously shown on BBC Three and has now made it onto the big one. BBC One is replaying the first series which is in four parts. The programme documents three bachelor princes from Sri Lanka who come to Britain and live undercover. During their lives undercover, they live in Brighton and try out the local bars, clubs and even speed dating. It is a bit of a culture shock but seems like good light-hearted entertainment. How will the princes cope?

KATIE PRICE: LIFE STORIES UNCUT

ITV2 9:00 PM

If you missed ‘Piers Morgan’s Life Stories’ last night then this is your second chance. The uncut version lets you see the bits that were missed out last night as well as the full interview. This was a real ratings winner for the show with Katie talking about her sexual abuse. The show pulled in nearly five million viewers and it dealt with an extremely delicate subject. If you did miss it last night, catch up and see even more tonight on ITV2.

AMERICA’S TOUGHEST PRISONS

FIVE 10:00 PM

The penultimate episode tonight looks at Wyoming State Penitentiary. Is it safer to stay outside than go in. Well, the camera crew and production team venture inside to see what really goes on in this prison.

James Corden has just hinted on Jonathan Ross that hit BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey could come to an end after the third series. Corden, who is currently penning the third series with Ruth Jones told Ross how the lack of time is making it harder to write the scripts. I am a huge fan of the show and series one and two have been exceptional. The Christmas special was also just as good. Corden and Jones are very good at what they do and I can see the third series of the sitcom being just as entertaining.

Aside from Gavin and Stacey, Corden is also awaiting the release ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’ and BBC Three sketch show ‘Horne and Corden’. The sketch show stars Corden and Gavin and Stacey co-star turned sidekick Matthew Horne. I have just seen a clip on Jonathan Ross and it looks as though it is going to be a hit. I hope it is anyway. Horne and Corden starts next Tuesday on BBC Three, look out for it in my ‘What To Watch’ section next week.

Lesbian Vampire Killers also stars Horne and Corden and is a film. It does exactly what it says on the tin and is about girls that turn into lesbian vampires when they reach their 18th birthday. Horne and Corden’s job is to kill these vampires. Yet again the film looks like it could be popular with younger audiences, particularly students. The film comes to cinemas on Friday 20 March.

You can also catch James on Comic Relief on Friday 13 March. He has recorded a sketch playing his character Smithy from Gavin and Stacey and will also be presenting between 1:30 am and 3:00 am when the marathon telethon will come to an end.

MISTRESSES

BBC ONE 9:00 PM

Following the success of the first series, Mistresses in back on BBC One. Now into the third episode, the second series really is not disappointing. Tonight sees Trudi (Sharon Small) discover the extent of her fiancés (Richard) deceit. There is so much going on in tonight’s episode, I do not want to give it away too much so make sure you follow the lead of five million other viewers and tune into Mistresses tonight. If you have missed any of the previous episodes, you can watch them on BBC iPlayer

FREAKY EATERS

BBC THREE 8:00 PM

How interesting can it be to study the eating habits of one person? Well for lots of people I am sure this programme will appear extremely time-wasting. However, Freaky Eaters is not just about that. It is about offering advice and helping those who have a one-track mind when it comes to food. Tonight we follow Tom, a 26-year-old beans and chips fanatic. That is all he eats. Can he be persuaded to change his ways? Tune in at 8 to find out.

HORIZON

BBC TWO 9:00 PM

If Mistresses is not your thing then why not try Horizon. This episode looks bizarrely interesting because it begs the question, why do we not venture into the outside world naked? It is a simple question. Many of us will freely walk around naked indoors but why not outdoors in public. Is it because we see it as being obscene or do we just feel uncomfortable with it? Tonight for the purpose of televisual experiment, eight brave members of the public put nudity to the test and bare all. Please remember though that these test are being conducted for psychological and physical purposes.
