Will Brown and Cameron go head-to-head? Source: Daily Mail

The BBC believes that the Prime Minister has said he could go head-to-head with Tory leader David Cameron before the general election.

Apparently BBC News reports that Brown will decide overnight before his speech tomorrow at the Labour conference as to whether he and Cameron will have a televised debate that could happen more than once.

Brown believes it will give voters the chance to see both sides and what both parties have to say. Could it be that Brown has now realised how much trouble he is in? I think it will take more than a petty debate with Cameron to win back voters.

COMIC RELIEF – THE APPRENTICE

BBC ONE – 9:00 PM

The battle of the boardroom is back tonight and all in aid of Comic Relief. Watch famous names from the worlds of entertainment, television, and business compete in two teams. It’s boys versus girls and Sir Alan Sugar hands them the challenge of designing a children’s toy. Both teams must take into account the marketing and design. The one that is most popular wins. A member of the losing team will hear the infamous words, “You’re fired!”

It looks like an amazing episode to set fans up for the return of the new series in a few weeks. Watch out for some sparks flying between EastEnder Patsy Palmer and businesswoman Michelle Mone. I love this show and tonight is going to be top quality television. The results are announced tomorrow during the Comic Relief telethon.

COMIC RELIEF – BIG RED NOSE CLIMB

So, the nine celebs made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on Saturday morning. This programme follows their journey. There will be plenty of painful moments as the celebs face some of the toughest, most challenging moments of their lives. Having raised over £1 million for Comic Relief, their effort and enthusiasm has been remarkable. There aren’t many people that survive the mountain climb. They have had their fair share of setbacks and illnesses. Cheryl Cole was sick, Alesha Dixon fell off a ledge and Gary Barlow had back problems. However they all made it to the top so make sure you tune in tonight and follow their extraordinary journey.

The wife of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has died in a car crash that left the PM with ‘slight’ injuries.

The PM and his wife Susan Tsvangirai were traveling south of the capital, Harare when the accident happened. Mr Tsvangirai is the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and made the news last month when he formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe, a long term rival.

A spokesperson for the MDC confirmed that Mr Tsvangirai was not in a critical condition but the cause of the accident was still being investigated. It is believed that the car collided with a lorry as the PM was on his way to a rural destination where he was going to spend the weekend.

Mr and Mrs Tsvangirai had six children and had been married for 31 years. To shed light on how the accident could have happened, BBC News have said that roads around Harare are single-carriageway, therefore overtaking can be dangerous. This is by no means the exact cause of the fatal crash but I am sure more news will follow and I will keep posting updates.

Spelman to repay £9,600

3 03 2009

Shadow Communities Secretary, Caroline Spelman has been ordered to repay £9,600 by MP’s. Spelman has accepted the ruling as has promised to repay back every penny.

The Tory MP has admitted to using public funds to pay for a woman whom she claimed to be a nanny. However this was not the case, Tina Haynes was being paid to work as a secretary for Spelman. Although she was a nanny, Spelman paid her in a different way through offering her free lodging. When asked about her role, Haynes did not see herself as a secretary, she explained how she had made the odd phone call and posted the odd letter. She did not see herself as a proper secretary though, more as a nanny.

The case was referred to the Parliamentary Standards Commission by Spelman herself. She was keen to clear her name. Since the report was released, Spelman has apologised for her actions and would now like to move on because “it all happened over a decade ago” (between 1997 and 1998).

An interview with a member of the Labour party on BBC News earlier suggests otherwise though, after all a bad news story for the Tories can only mean something good for Labour…
