Up from the ashes…

Last night saw one of the most heavily promoted shows on the BBC begin it’s second series.

I am of course talking about Ashes To Ashes, the 80’s time travel cop series starring Keeley Hawes and Philip Glenister. The first series was a follow on from the hit 70’s time travel cop show Life On Mars that starred John Simm. I loved the first series of Ashes To Ashes and thought it was better than Life On Mars. I am by no means saying that Life On Mars was rubbish, it was one of the best programmes on TV during 2006 and 2007. The end was amazing and I am hoping that Ashes To Ashes will not disappoint.

Last night seven million of us tuned in to see the start of the second series. The episode centred around two murders Soho’s red light district. There were as ever great one-liners from DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) and Keeley Hawes played some great parts as it was becoming clear that she could in fact be returning to 2008 at the end of this series. That is if this series is the final series. Looking back at Life On Mars I should imagine it will be.

The episode last night had everything a programme like that should. Humour, drama and a dark side to it. One thing is for sure, this programme apart from a few others is one of the best on the box at the moment and I am sure we will all be watching in our millions to see if DI Alex Drake makes it back to 2008 or stays in 1982.
